GRUMPY CAT, international nternet star, died May 14, 2019 from complications of a urinary tract infection. She was 7 years old.
Grumpy Cat’s real name was Tardar Sauce. She lived in Morristown, Arizona with her family, the Bundesens.
A statement released by the family said, “She passed away peacefully, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.”
Grumpy Cat developed her distinct “grumpy” expression due to an underbite and feline dwarfism. This condition is either intentionally bred into the cat or is caused genectically by an underactive pituitary gland.
Grumpy Cat became an internet sensation when a photograph of her was posted on September 22, 2012, on social news website Reddit by Bryan Bundesen, the brother of her mom Tabatha Bundesen.
By March 5, 2019, Grumpy Cat had 8.3 million followers on Facebook; 2.4 million followers on Instagram; and 1.5 million followers on Twitter. The Bundesens said “she helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough.”
